Alright guys, here’s a video and some samples of our first sound effects sojourn of the semester. Last Thursday (Sep 15th), we all headed over to the local water part 7 Peaks to record the engine room for the wave pool that they have. Needless to say, it was pretty fun, and I of course ended up getting wet recording a waterfall. It was awesome.
So, here’s the video clip of Wiz (my teacher) setting up his holophone, which is just a really fancy mic that records in 5.1 (6 channels), and me getting into my recording position outside the engine room to get a different sound than the rest of the class. It’s really gripping stuff, I’m just warning you.
So after that gripping piece of film, here’s some of the sounds I walked away with:
Engine from outside, two different spots. You can hear the water a lot in the first one, but still some cool sounds at the beginning.
Waves ending from the front of the pool. This is some very nice water sound.
Here’s two pumps inside the engine room. On the first, we kept it live after shutting off the pump because there was some really cool ambient dripping noises.
Last but not least, the grotto. First one is the water being pumped at the top, and the second is inside the waterfall.
So, overall, some pretty cool sounds, and a really fun field trip.
