Could it be that I haven’t delivered one of Progulator’s popular, informative and soon-to-be patented Weekly News Updates in over a month? It’s true, I’ve been shirking in my duties, failing to post my regular article that a) most likely isn’t read by any except my college buddies and b) I am not financially compensated for whatsoever. In that positive spirit, I’d like to dedicate this month-long drought to procrastination – this hiatus just wouldn’t have been possible without you! So without further ado… THE NEWS:

  • Metalstorm.net is reporting that progressive/power metal group Katagory V has released a brand new song, “Far Too Long,” that is streaming online here. The song will appear on their upcoming album, Resurrect The Insurgence, due to be released… at some point I’m sure. Full disclosure here: several prominent staff members at Progulator are friends with Katagory V bassist and bandleader Dustin Mitchell, who is also a denizen of Utah. He’s a pretty cool guy. Check out his song.
  • I’m not gonna lie, this next bit of news is among the strangest and most amazing musical news I’ve ever heard. According to a press release on his website, Devin Townsend has apparently slated a show/extravaganza on October 27, 2012 at the famous Roundhouse in London. He’s given almost a year’s notice, which is odd enough for one show, but it’s the content that is even more interesting: Townsend used words such as “art exhibition, actors, Ziltoid, stilt walkers” and “fire breathers” to describe what should be so much more than just a concert. The show will be called “The Retinal Circus,” and Devin says it will be “a culmination of my ENTIRE career with a star line up and full supporting cast.” Hold on to your seats, ladies and gents, this could be one of the more incredible adventures in progressive music history.
  • Neal Morse will be a guest on the next Spock’s Beard album. Um… I’m going to have to apologize to Neal and Spock’s Beard for this one. Putting them after that bit of Devin Townsend news is just bad manners. Sorry. Somebody had to bite the bullet though, right? Again, sorry.
